The Bobsweep Pethair robotic vacuum cleaner and mop is designed to vacuum away pet hair and mop up dirty paw prints from thin carpets and hard floors. It is available in two interesting colors: Champagne or Rouge.

Bobsweep Pethair: Overview

Bobsweep is the name of the Canadian company that makes this robotic vacuum cleaner. The name “Pethair” simply refers to its suitability for cleaning up pet hair. It is presented as a robotic pet called “Bob” that cleans up the hair and dirt your other animal pets leave behind.

The Bobsweep Pethair has the usual features: side brush for edges and corners, rotating main brush, strong suction, HEPA filtration, obstacle and edge sensors. Nevertheless, it does have a very large one litre dust bin which holds more dirt and hair than any other vacuum cleaning robot. It also has a 400-nanometer ultraviolet lamp, which might sterilize the surface of the floor.

What does the box contain?

  • Robot with a 2200mAh lithium-ion battery installed
  • Two extra HEPA filters
  • 2 x microfiber mopping cloths
  • 2 x side brushes
  • blindfold stickers
  • bumper stickers (we have NO idea what these are!)
  • charging adapter (110V/240V)
  • charging station
  • cleaning tool
  • extra main brush
  • mop attachment
  • owner’s manual
  • Phillips head screwdriver + screws
  • quick start guide
  • remote control
  • warranty card

Does it vacuum pet hair?

The Bobsweep Pethair has a rotating brush in its center that has both bristles and rubber sweepers. This sweeps up cat and dog hair into its suction port with clean results. The air is then forced through a HEPA filter to remove small particles which might cause allergies. This is why this robot vacuum is called the Bobsweep Pethair.

Can Bobsweep Pethair clean carpets?

The Bobsweep Pethair will clean thin carpets, but do not attach the microfiber cloth and mop. It might get stuck on the carpet due to the mop attachment. Only attach the mop and microfiber when you restrict its movement to cleaning hardwood, stone or tile floors. Another thing to look out for is carpets with fringes: the robot vacuum might choke on long fringes and stop working.

How does the mop work?

You dampen the microfiber cloth with water and then attach it to the mop attachment which goes underneath the robot vacuum. The mopping cloth is only for hard floors, not for carpets. It mops the floor while it vacuums.

Even so, the Bobsweep Pethair is not a true robotic mop like the iRobot Braava Jet 240. Most people do not even bother to use the mop attachment because they have hardwood floors with area rugs.

Will it fall down the stairs?

The Bobsweep Pethair has sensors which detect a sharp drop in height. It will avoid such drop-offs, and therefore it will not fall down stairs. However, like other robotic vacuum cleaners, it might read black floors as a drop-off. It then avoids such dark spots and does not clean there.

You can put the included blindfold over the sensors, and it will then clean very dark or black flooring, but then it might fall down the stairs. The Bobsweep Pethair does not have a virtual wall accessory like the Roomba 860.

It also does not use magnetic boundary markers like the Botvac D80. You will have to put a physical barrier at the top of the stairs to stop it from tumbling down if you ever blindfold its sensors.

Does it have a schedule function?

Yes, it can be scheduled to clean every day or only on certain days of the week at specific times. You can either use the remote control or the buttons on the robot to do this. The Bobsweep Pethair starts from its charging station, vacuums the floor, and then returns to the charging station.

Bobsweep Pethair vs. Roomba 650

How does this Bobsweep compare to iRobot’s entry-level vacuum cleaning robot: the Roomba 650?

These robotic vacuums have some features in common: single side brush, central rotating brush, self-charging, vacuums carpets and hard floors, cliff sensors and scheduling.

The Bobsweep Pethair has a remote control, while the Roomba 650 has all its buttons on the top. The Bobsweep also has HEPA filtration, while the Roomba 650 only has normal air filtration.

The dust bin of the Bobsweep is probably more than twice the size of the Roomba. The Roomba 650 has a virtual wall, but the Bobsweep does not support virtual walls.

How well does Bob sweep and mop?

The Bobsweep Pethair is effective at vacuuming pet hair, which is what you would expect from its rather descriptive name.

The mop attachment is only good for dry mopping or damp mopping. A wet mopping cloth will wet the floor too much, causing the wheels of the Bobsweep to lose traction.

It has a lithium-ion battery which provides power for over an hour of brushing, sweeping and vacuuming. It automatically returns to its charging station to recharge when the battery power drops below 15%.

The Bobsweep Pethair has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of almost $700, which is a too expensive for us. We would rather spend $700 on a Roomba 960, even if it has a smaller dust bin and no mop attachment.

If you can buy the Bobsweep Pethair at a good price, then it might be worth the investment because of its extra large 1-liter dust bin size and ultraviolet sterilization lamp (check price on Amazon).
