The Instant Pot Smart electric pressure cooker combines many cooking functions into a single kitchen appliance. Its Bluetooth computer chip and free app allows you to download or create recipe scripts for cooking new delicious dishes.
Instant Pot Smart WiFi
Please note that there is a newer model available: the Instant Pot Smart WiFi. It replaces the older model Smart Bluetooth, which is discontinued. It seems like a few changes has been made to the control panel and the smartphone app. We suggest that you read more about it at Amazon.
Instant Pot Smart: Overview
The Instant Pot Smart electric pressure cooker saves you countertop space, cooking time and electrical energy. It reduces the amount of kitchen space you need because it combines the cooking functions of a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, vegetable steamer, food warmer and yogurt maker. Use it for stewing, browning, simmering and steaming food. Pressure-cooking is much faster than conventional stove top cooking and therefore saves you time as well as electricity.
This pressure cooker upholds a high safety standard. It has multiple safety mechanisms which reduce the chance of injury by preventing common pressure-cooking errors and dangers. Still, read the instruction manual carefully and take the necessary precautions before each use.
This electric pressure cooker is called “Smart” because it has a Bluetooth 4.0 low energy chip for wireless radio wave connectivity up to 45 feet. Add the Instant Pot Smart Cooker app to your smart device and use it to start a recipe script. You can also view the current temperature and pressure information on your smartphone while it is busy cooking. Just remember that the Bluetooth chip has a limited range of around 30 to 45 feet.
The Instant Pot Smart offers two pressure settings. The high pressure setting goes up to 11 psi, which reduces cooking time by a large amount. The low pressure setting works at around 7 psi. The cooking temperature at high pressure is about 118 degrees Celsius (244 degrees Fahrenheit).
You may cook for up to 120 minutes with the manual pressure-cooking mode. Delayed cooking up to 24 hours long is supported. Its automatic keep warm feature has three different temperature settings (less, normal and more).
This electric pressure cooker runs on 120V 60Hz power. It has a rated wattage of 1000 watts. The stainless steel inner pot has a 6-quart capacity. This electric pressure cooker weighs almost 15 pounds.
Instant Pot Smart vs. IP-DUO
The IP-DUO60 is probably the best-selling Instant Pot model on the market (click here to read my review). How does it compare to the newer and smarter Instant Pot Smart?
These two electric pressure cookers are almost identical. They offer the same features, except for the Bluetooth capability and upgraded control panel of the Smart-60 model. The IP-DUO60 has an LED display while the Smart-60 has an LCD with indicators for smartphone, Bluetooth, heating, pressure and program. The Smart-60 also has three different temperature settings for keep warm (IP-DUO only has one setting).
A new IP-DUO model was introduced to the market in 2017: the Instant Pot Duo Plus. It does not have Bluetooth, but it has a blue LCD screen with status icons. It includes three new cooking programs: Cake, Egg and Sterilize. The Duo Plus costs a few dollars less than the Instant Pot Smart, and is therefore the more affordable choice if you do not desire the smartphone app with its recipe scripts.
What accessories are included?
- Condensation collector
- measuring cup
- recipe booklet
- rice paddle
- silicone mini mitts
- soup spoon
- steam rack
- user manual
The stainless steel inner cooking pot and steam rack are dishwasher safe. The sealing ring and steam release valve can also be cleaned in the dishwasher. The sealing ring might retain the odor from acidic foods even after washing it in the dishwasher or with soapy water. You might buy extra sealing rings and use them if one of the rings retain a strong odor. It is easy to remove and install a new sealing ring.
What does the app do?
The Instant Pot Smart Cooker app is available for free download from either the iTunes App Store (for Apple devices) or the Google Play Store (for Android devices). Go to these stores and search for the smart cooker app.
So, what can you do with the smart cooker app once you have successfully paired it with the Instant Pot Smart pressure cooker? It seems like you can view the current temperature, pressure and heating level of the cooker. You may also write your own recipe scripts or use a downloaded recipe script to cook custom dishes.
The recipe scripts are the main purpose of the smart cooker app. You can program your own cooking time, temperature and pressure settings when you create a personal recipe script. However, you need to know what amounts to enter when creating these scripts from scratch, otherwise the food might not turn out so good.
Conclusion
The Instant Pot Smart electric pressure cooker has almost the same features, functions and performance as the Instant Pot IP-DUO60. However, it goes one step further with its Bluetooth connectivity and smart cooker app, which is the main reason why we would get the Instant Pot Smart pressure cooker.
